Confession to make here - okay, a couple of them.
1st confession. I HATE to clean. Not dislike, not "it's not my favorite thing to do". I HATE IT! I would rather do just about anything, up to and including exercise. So I am always looking for quick and easy shortcuts. 2nd confession. I am a Pinterest addict. I try to limit my time on Pinterest to about an hour a day. 3rd confession. I can not leave any idea alone. Ever. Not an idea. Not a recipe. Not a craft project. Not a parenting tip.
Sooooooo....when I hear an amazing idea from somewhere, I make it my own. I customize it to fill my needs. And when I saw this little tidbit on Pinterest, I decided to try it.
Basic idea - you mix dish soap and vinegar and use it to clean your bathroom. When I tried this, however, I discovered a few things.
A. The amount of bubbles present is slightly overwhelming.
B. The smell is slightly overwhelming.
C. The price tag for the large quantities I needed was slightly overwhelming.
When I get overwhelmed, I may as well kiss the project I'm working on good-bye. In this case, the bathroom cleaning project. Not good timing, considering we were in the middle of trying to sell our house and prospective buyers REALLY don't like nasty bathrooms. It is a bit of a turn off.
So I customized. Here are my solutions. Get a gallon of white vinegar that only is about 1/3 full. Fill it to the 2/3 mark (approx) with water. Then finish filling it the rest of the way with BASIC dawn dish soap.
Buy one of the cool scrubby things picture for EACH bathroom. Fill the handle with the solution.
Then, do not use this to try to wash the sinks and/or the counters. Only use it for the tubs and showers. And if at all possible, get your children and/or spouse to do it for you. :) Just kidding, kind of. This handy-dandy little tool makes it a lot easier for kids to scrub the tubs and showers. The combo Dawn (removes soap scum and breaks down oils) and vinegar (removes hard water stains and build up) works great and if you dilute it a bit, it doesn't smell as bad, lasts longer, and the bubbles are not nearly as daunting to get rid of!
